Essential oils blend for Flu/Cold – DIY

Come Fall and winter, starts the rotation of cold, cough that circulates to every family member and when you think finally everyone has recovered then your little one has next round of cold. Essential oils subside the symptoms of flu , like congestion, coughing, fatigue, body ache, fever  and headache.

These 3 oils – Lemon, Eucalyptus and Tea tree make a blend that is anti-viral, anti-septic, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial.

a) Preventive: Great anti-microbial ability  – Lemon and Eucalyptus oils

b) Immune-modulating:  Stimulate immune function  – Lemon and Tea-tree oils

c) Depurative:  Help remove pathogens and other toxins from the body and speed the healing process after an illness – Lemon oil

Take a bowl put hot water – Add 1 drop of eucalyptus oil, 2 drop of lemon oil , 1 drop of tea tree oil – Place a towel over your head inhale the steam, close eyes for 10 mins. This works wonders and I see a immediate relief when I do it. For kids under age of 5 just make them inhale the steam without towel closed.

But you can use the same blend and use it other ways too

  1. Diffuse this blend using a diffuser
  2. Take a tissue add these oils and inhale – Easy on the go
  3. If you want to apply on body then mix this blend with a drop of coconut oil and rub on the chest. This is so much better than using Vicks on chest
  4. Add the blend to tub filled with water, add some epsom salt and soak yourself for 15-20 mins ( Do not go in sun after bath as lemon oil is phytotoxic in nature). For kids skip epsom salt.
